Yuri Nagassa had long been interested in the Valley of the Dead, an Anomalous Zone in South America that was of great important to her people, the Anazktec tribe. Nagassa believed that persistant Anomalous Zones like this one were holdovers from the Exogenous Era, and learned that Anazktec Sensitives in the Valley could access their tribe's ancestral memory. Understanding this would prove vital to understanding the origins of the Exogenous.
